The SWBC Mortgage Story

SWBC began more than 40 years ago as a when two childhood friends, Gary Dudley and Charlie Amato, formed what is known today and a strong, stable, diversified financial services company.

Susan Stewart, CEO of SWBC Mortgage, was a founding member of the mortgage division in 1988 and for the past 30 years has led the company into what is now one of the top mortgage companies in the nation.

Van Stewart, President of SWBC Mortgage, joined forces with Susan in 1989 when the company he founded was purchased by SWBC. He and Susan continue to lead the way forward in the industry, by setting an example of business excellence and servant leadership.

Susan currently serves as a member of MBA’s Board of Directors, is the immediate past Vice Chair of the MBA’s Residential Board of Governors (RESBOG), and is on the board of the Opens Doors Foundation (ODF). In addition to serving on the ODF board, both Susan and SWBC Mortgage have been recognized as Guardian level donors. Susan also serves on MBA’s Consumer Affairs Advisory Council. She has previously served on MBA’s Loan Production and Fraud Prevention Committees and was a past board member of Fannie Mae Western Region Customer Advisory.

A native San Antonian, Van Stewart has always been active in civic activities and organizations, including Kiwanis and Rotary, and he serves as Chairman of the Board of the Friends of CHRISTUS Santa Rosa Hospital. He is professionally affiliated with the San Antonio Board of Realtors and the Greater San Antonio Builders Association and is a past President of the San Antonio Mortgage Bankers Association and the Texas Mortgage Bankers Association.
